Sandleheath Village Hall is housed in the redundant church building of St. Aldhelm's and is a registered charity. Our aim is to convert this much-loved building into a modern place that will accommodate activities, provide a local hub and enhance village cohesion.
So far, we have readied the hall for occupancy and are now taking bookings. Facilities, consisting of a large open area and toilets, are basic but usable. But there is no kitchen area or disabled facilities.
We have created a comprehensive works schedule that will modernise our hall with structural improvements, repairs to the roof, insulation, new electrics, new toilets and a food preparation area.
Once finished, we'll have a hall we can be proud of. But we need the practical support of the whole community to make it happen, through donations, fundraising initiatives and by volunteering to join our team.
Our refurbishment programme will cost about £150,000. If we are going to complete it, we have to raise the money. We hope that most of the funds will come from grants, so the Village Hall Trustees are busy applying, and we have already received some financial assistance from councils. But some grant-giving organisations will want to know that our village is fully supporting its project. Typically, they require the community to raise a percentage of the cost themselves. If that's 10 percent, we'll have to raise £15,000. We hope that some organisations will contribute without this restriction, but time will tell.
So we need you to contribute if we are going to see our Village Hall refurbished and modern in a reasonable timescale. To see how you can contribute to our Refurbishment Appeal, please visit our Donate Page which will give you all the detail and there is an option to make a gift online. Thank you!
Naturally, our Village Hall will not run itself! We need a number of people to help establish and manage it. This could be by offering your own special or professional skills during our refurbishment project, by helping us in fundraising, by joining in with one of our ground clearance working parties, or by becoming one of our management team.
Current oportunities are advertised on our Volunteer Page. Please visit it and apply for one of the roles, or just send us a message with what you have to offer and I'm sure we'll be able to use you. Thank you!
